Sarajevo and Yugoslavia were the hosts of XIV Olympic Winter Games from 08. to 19. February 1984. The Festival of Youth and Sports has entered the history of the Olympic movement, not only by the number of records that were recorded in competitions, but also by those who made good achievements before the true start of the Winter Olympic Games held in this part of Europe. A year before opening ceremony of the XIV Winter Olympics all necessary facilities for their maintenance were built, which means that a total of 167 major and more than 400 additional projects were completed. For the XIV Winter participation 49 national Olympic committees applied, which was by then a record in the history of the Winter Olympics in general. In Sarajevo a record number of participants arrived – athletes and their followers – more than 2500. Sarajevo Olympics has become the driving force for development of winter – sports and continental tourism in the region. Hosts of Winter Olympics were Jahorina, Bjelasnica, Igman, Trebevic, Čvrsnica and other mountain ranges in the surrounding and wider area of Sarajevo as well as city of Sarajevo itself. The construction of facilities and infrastructure for Jahorina Olympic Games costed a total of 36,631,125 DM (Deutsche Mark). Competitions in giant slalom, slalom and downhill for women were organized on Jahorina.


On February the 13th 1984 an Olympic race in giant slalom was organized on Jahorina, for the first time. Giant slalom race was the first alpine discipline, held at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. These were the first Olympic Games, where male and female competitions were held on the same tracks. Men’s giant slalom, downhill and slalom was held on Bjelasnica.


Starting day – on Monday, the weather was variably cloudy and the track was well prepared and loaded with audience. The track “Olympic giant slalom” now bears the same name. The race was judged and overseen by a quite of number of people from Pale, who were majority in the Olympics. The people of Pale have made a great contribution in bringing the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, thanks to sports success, but also a great ability to organize many competitions in recent years, that were held on Jahorina. The race was remembered for great excitement and great results of two Americans. Debbie Armstrong triumphed in front of favored Christin Cooper. The third was French Perrine Diapers. There were four Yugoslav female participants. The most successful was Leskovšek Andrea, who finished the race as 16th. Race remained remembered by a few runs from the track, but fortunately, it all ended well. Medal awarding ceremony was organized in front of Skenderija. The Olympics in Sarajevo held in 1984 were the best organized games.


The downhill race took place on 16th February 1984. The day before there a training was held on Jahorina, which had been done under a dense fog, but thursday brought fine weather. Downhill was driven on the track “Olympic downhill” which still bears the same name. The fastest competitors were from Switzerland. Michela Figini triumphed with the score of 01:13:36. 5 hundred slower was her compatriot Maria Walliser, and the bronze went to famous Olga Charvat from Czechoslovakia with 17 hundredths of a second behind the leader. There was no Yugoslav competitors in the race.


Slalom race was held on 17th of February 1984. Slalom was driven on the shortest track on Jahorina “Olympic slalom”, which is still frequently used. With Friday came a big fog again, and the race was difficult. The Italian Paoletta Magoni won the gold with the score of 01:36:47, the second was Wormwood Perrine from France with a score of 01:37:36, and the third Ursula Konzett from Liechtenstein – 01:37:50. Best Yugoslav was Mateja Svet, and she finished the race in 15th position. The race remained remembered for as many as 17 runs out of track, one of which was Anja Zavadlav, and 4 runs out in the second run, one of which was another Yugoslav Nuša Tom.

The Olympic Center Jahorina, a powerful mountain of the Dinaric mountain range, with the highest peak Ogorjelica located at 1,916 meters above sea level, is situated at the junction of cold continental and warm Mediterranean climates, and is suitable for both summer and winter tourism. This attribute of the Olympic Center Jahorina was achieved not only through numerous excellent investments, but also through diligent work that does not stop with the closing of the winter or summer season, as investment projects continue throughout the year.


Jahorina traditionally welcomes the winter season as the most modern ski resort in Southeast Europe.


In the winter season, Jahorina will welcome skiers with a total of 52 kilometers of perfectly groomed alpine skiing slopes, with as many as 17 vertical transport installations. Total capacity when it comes to the number of skiers that the Olympic Center with its installations transports to the top of the mountain, in just one hour, increased to roughly 31,000. Two new trails will be introduced,4a,3b,6c and connecting trail 5a. With the implementation of the new lighting installation project on conneting trails 6a and 8, The Olympic Center Jahorina offers a total of 12 kilometers of trails for night enjoyment. The Poljice, Novak Djokovic, Prača and Trnovo trails are ready for night skiing.


Fans of snowboarding immensely will enjoy the “Snowboard” park on the Trnovo slope, which covers an area of ​​as much as 3,000 square meters.


The sledging enthusiasts, both children and adults, were delighted with the sledging run with a length of 600 meters and a width of 5 meters.


The construction of an additional 30,000 cubic meter capacity water reservoir on the Prača track, as well as the increase in the capacity of the artificial snowmaking system, has covered as much as 80% of the total surface area of the Jahorina Olympic Center’s slopes with the artificial snowmaking system. The “SnowFactory” system is the most modern snowmaking system that produces artificial snow under all conditions, regardless of the air temperature.


Ski nurseries are the most adequate for children and beginners in skiing. With professional instructors from the ski & snowboard school “Olympic Center”, they will definitely include skiing and snowboarding in their favorite sports.


Professional skiers still choose Jahorina as an ideal destination for training and preparation, while its 11.8 certified ski slopes make it ready for hosting the biggest international competitions.


In addition to the features on the slopes, in front of the Olympic bar, at the location where an outdoor bar was built, numerous après-ski parties will welcome all visitors, which, as always, are synonymous with great entertainment on the Olympic mountain.


Jahorina’s climate is suitable for heavy snowfall, resulting in an average of 145 days with snow cover and a snow depth of up to 5 meters.


The capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, is also the closest major city to Jahorina. From its international airport, there are two ways to reach Jahorina: the first route goes through the city of East Sarajevo and is 31 kilometers long, while the second route goes through the city of Pale and is 37 kilometers long.

The construction of facilities and infrastructure for Jahorina Olympic Games costed a total of 36,631,125 DM (Deutsche Mark). Competitions in giant slalom, slalom and downhill for women were organized on Jahorina.


On February the 13th 1984 an Olympic race in giant slalom was organized on Jahorina, for the first time. Giant slalom race was the first alpine discipline, held at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in 1984. These were the first Olympic Games, where male and female competitions were held on the same tracks. Men’s giant slalom, downhill and slalom was held on Bjelasnica.


Starting day – on Monday, the weather was variably cloudy and the track was well prepared and loaded with audience. The track “Olympic giant slalom” now bears the same name. The race was judged and overseen by a quite of number of people from Pale, who were majority in the Olympics. The people of Pale have made a great contribution in bringing the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, thanks to sports success, but also a great ability to organize many competitions in recent years, that were held on Jahorina. The race was remembered for great excitement and great results of two Americans. Debbie Armstrong triumphed in front of favored Christin Cooper. The third was French Perrine Diapers. There were four Yugoslav female participants. The most successful was Leskovšek Andrea, who finished the race as 16th. Race remained remembered by a few runs from the track, but fortunately, it all ended well. Medal awarding ceremony was organized in front of Skenderija. The Olympics in Sarajevo held in 1984 were the best organized games.


The downhill race took place on 16th February 1984. The day before there a training was held on Jahorina, which had been done under a dense fog, but thursday brought fine weather. Downhill was driven on the track “Olympic downhill” which still bears the same name. The fastest competitors were from Switzerland. Michela Figini triumphed with the score of 01:13:36. 5 hundred slower was her compatriot Maria Walliser, and the bronze went to famous Olga Charvat from Czechoslovakia with 17 hundredths of a second behind the leader. There was no Yugoslav competitors in the race.


Slalom race was held on 17th of February 1984. Slalom was driven on the shortest track on Jahorina “Olympic slalom”, which is still frequently used. With Friday came a big fog again, and the race was difficult. The Italian Paoletta Magoni won the gold with the score of 01:36:47, the second was Wormwood Perrine from France with a score of 01:37:36, and the third Ursula Konzett from Liechtenstein – 01:37:50. Best Yugoslav was Mateja Svet, and she finished the race in 15th position. The race remained remembered for as many as 17 runs out of track, one of which was Anja Zavadlav, and 4 runs out in the second run, one of which was another Yugoslav Nuša Tom.

The Olympic Center Jahorina, a powerful mountain of the Dinaric mountain range, with the highest peak Ogorjelica located at 1,916 meters above sea level, is situated at the junction of cold continental and warm Mediterranean climates, and is suitable for both summer and winter tourism. This attribute of the Olympic Center Jahorina was achieved not only through numerous excellent investments, but also through diligent work that does not stop with the closing of the winter or summer season, as investment projects continue throughout the year.


Jahorina traditionally welcomes the winter season as the most modern ski resort in Southeast Europe.


In the winter season, Jahorina will welcome skiers with a total of 52 kilometers of perfectly groomed alpine skiing slopes, with as many as 17 vertical transport installations. Total capacity when it comes to the number of skiers that the Olympic Center with its installations transports to the top of the mountain, in just one hour, increased to roughly 31,000. Two new trails will be introduced,4a,3b,6c and connecting trail 5a. With the implementation of the new lighting installation project on conneting trails 6a and 8, The Olympic Center Jahorina offers a total of 12 kilometers of trails for night enjoyment. The Poljice, Novak Djokovic, Prača and Trnovo trails are ready for night skiing.


Fans of snowboarding immensely will enjoy the “Snowboard” park on the Trnovo slope, which covers an area of ​​as much as 3,000 square meters.


The sledging enthusiasts, both children and adults, were delighted with the sledging run with a length of 600 meters and a width of 5 meters.


The construction of an additional 30,000 cubic meter capacity water reservoir on the Prača track, as well as the increase in the capacity of the artificial snowmaking system, has covered as much as 80% of the total surface area of the Jahorina Olympic Center’s slopes with the artificial snowmaking system. The “SnowFactory” system is the most modern snowmaking system that produces artificial snow under all conditions, regardless of the air temperature.


Ski nurseries are the most adequate for children and beginners in skiing. With professional instructors from the ski & snowboard school “Olympic Center”, they will definitely include skiing and snowboarding in their favorite sports.


Professional skiers still choose Jahorina as an ideal destination for training and preparation, while its 11.8 certified ski slopes make it ready for hosting the biggest international competitions.


In addition to the features on the slopes, in front of the Olympic bar, at the location where an outdoor bar was built, numerous après-ski parties will welcome all visitors, which, as always, are synonymous with great entertainment on the Olympic mountain.


Jahorina’s climate is suitable for heavy snowfall, resulting in an average of 145 days with snow cover and a snow depth of up to 5 meters.


The capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, is also the closest major city to Jahorina. From its international airport, there are two ways to reach Jahorina: the first route goes through the city of East Sarajevo and is 31 kilometers long, while the second route goes through the city of Pale and is 37 kilometers long.

A so-called “SnowFactory” system has been acquired, which is the most modern snowmaking system that produces artificial snow under all conditions, regardless of the air temperature.


With the installation of 2 new ski lifts – “Prača” T-bar, 900 meters long, and the “Oštra Glava” drag lift, 120 meters long – the number of vertical transport installations on Jahorina, as well as the total capacity when it comes to the number of skiers that the Olympic Center with its installations transports to the top of the mountain, in just one hour, increased to roughly 31,000. With the implementation of the new lighting installation project, the already existing 5 kilometers of trails for night skiing were accompanied with 3.5 kilometers of newly lit trails according to FIS standards, and thus delighted skiing fans with a total of 8.5 kilometers of trails for night enjoyment. The Poljice and Novak Djokovic trails are ready for night skiing. The Novak Djokovic trail is fully illuminated for exceptional night skiing – it is also the most popular blue trail on the mountain.


In addition to the new features on the slopes, in front of the Olympic bar, at the location where a new outdoor bar was built, numerous après-ski parties welcomed all visitors, which, as always, were synonymous with great entertainment on the Olympic mountain.


However, the implementation of the projects “Sledding” and “Snowboard” park brought even more enthusiasm. Fans of snowboarding immensely enjoyed the new “Snowboard” park on the Trnovo slope, which covers an area of ​​as much as 3,000 square meters. The sledging enthusiasts, both children and adults, were delighted with the sledging run with a length of 600 meters and a width of 5 meters.
